HAWTHORNE, CA—The friendly skies are not always so friendly–especially when two apparently intelligent men conspire to kill.
Marvin Herrarte, 24, and Jose Juan Perez, 26, were arrested by Hawthorne police on Friday, October 3 at approximately 1 a.m. along the 15300 block of South Prairie Avenue in Hawthorne. The stretch of commercial street is southeast of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and immediately south of Hawthorne Municipal Airport.
Herrarte, a Lawndale resident, is said to be a ramp agent but it was not disclosed for which airport he worked. He was charged with attempted murder in the second degree (A187(A)PC) and conspiracy to commit any crime (182(A)(1)PC). No bail was set for him.
Perez, also a Lawndale resident who according to police records is an engineer, was charged with attempted murder in the second degree (A187(A)PC), conspiracy to commit any crime (182(A)(1)PC) and possession of a controlled substance (11377(A)HS). For the murder and conspiracy charges, no bail was set. For the possession charge, bail was set at $10,000.
Neither man is expected to be flying high again.

Editor’s Note – On October 8th, apparently released, Herrarte posted, “Glad I’m back home. Thanks to my family…..still, not that good of an ending.” Mercedes Herrarte added, “He did nothing wrong, just to hang out with the wrong crowd.” Earlier Marvin Herrarate posted this bit of wisdom – “I always remember that I always forget.” One can only hope that in the future he remembers to do right.
