After Assault With Car As Deadly Weapon, Suspects Face Charges In Davis
Two Sacramento teens, suspects in assaults on Russell Boulevard near the UC Davis campus in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 12, now face criminal charges, according to Davis Police.
DPD spokesman Lieutenant Tom Waltz said the suspects were talking with a woman near the intersection of Miller Drive and Russell Boulevard at around 3 am Sunday. Then the two suspects verbally abused two other men who happened to be walking by.
One of the suspects, who had been seated in a car during the verbal altercation, allegedly exited the vehicle, and the conflict escalated to physical combat. The other young man, driver of the vehicle, used it as a weapon, attempting to run the other victim down.
The suspects fled. Davis police soon caught sight of them, however and gave chase. Near the Del Paso Road region of Sacramento they cited Jordan Kilia Thomas, 18, for battery. The driver, Brandon Irving Powell, 19, now faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, Lt. Waltz said.
