A Stockton man driving under the influence of alcohol struck a six-year-old boy pedestrian on October 4.
Several callers informed Vacaville Police 911 dispatchers about the incident, which took place in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 300 block of Brown Street, a few minutes after 8 pm on the evening of Saturday, October 4.
The callers told the 911 dispatchers that a white sedan had hit a small child, who had sustained a compound fracture wound to his right leg. In a compound fracture, the broken bone protrudes through the skin, causing bleeding. Police responding to the calls quickly located the wounded child and transported him to a local hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police also determined the white sedan’s driver, Fidel Zavala Jr., 27, had been driving while intoxicated. Also, Zavala’s driver’s license was determined to have been suspended due to a previous DUI charge. Records show he was arrested in 2007 while living in Vacaville for DUI, hit and run. and driving with a suspended license. He was charged with the suspended licence and failure to appear in court in 2012 as well.
Zavala was arrested at the scene and charged with Felony DUI causing great bodily injury; DUI with more than .08 percent blood alcohol causing bodily injury (another felony); and driving while under suspension for DUI (a misdemeanor). Zavala offered no resistance as police booked him into Solano County Jail.
