FRESNO – The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is on the lookout for a 50-year-old man they believe is connected to the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl.
Early Tuesday morning, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding the sex offense just west of Fresno. Deputies learned that Luis Angel Ramirez, an acquaintance of the victim’s father, had kidnapped the girl from the front yard of her house and had taken her to a nearby truck parked on the property.
“Ramirez then put the young girl inside the truck, gagged and duct taped her mouth to prevent her from calling for help, and proceeded to sexually assault her,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Ramirez then told the girl he would kill her entire family if she said anything to anyone about the assault. He released the girl and then fled the scene on foot, the sheriff’s office said.
Ramirez is being sought on several charges, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, terrorist threats, and felony sexual assault. He also has an outstanding warrant for charges of indecent exposure and attempted sexual battery from another incident.
Ramirez is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet tall and weighing 120 pounds, with grayish-brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a gray and blue short-sleeved shirt.
Ramirez is a transient known to frequent the area of Belmont and Freeway 99, where he was already spotted several times on Tuesday.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ramirez is asked to immediately call the sheriff’s office at 600-3111 or CrimeStoppers at 498-STOP.
UPDATE – Ramirez turned himself in on Tuesday evening and was booked into Fresno County Jail.
