BAKERSFIELD — A 29-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested on Saturday for performing sexual acts with a minor.
Kenneth Garvin was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, digital penetration, sexual battery, assault where great bodily injury may occur, child abuse and annoying a child.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the assault took place during the early morning hours on Oct. 2. at Heritage Park in downtown Bakersfield. The female victim told police that she was asleep in the park when she was awakened by the suspect sexually assaulting her.
On Oct. 11, at about 11:30 a.m., officers were called out to the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter located at 820 21st Street to interview a subject who was believed to be the suspect in the offense.
When they arrived, officers contacted Garvin who at the time was in possession of narcotics paraphernalia. He arrested and transported to the police department where he was interviewed by detectives and connected to the sexual assault that occurred on Oct. 10
