The San Luis Obispo Police arrested a sex offender for a parole violation on Tuesday after an alert citizen noticed the suspect walking near a school.
According to SLOPD, they received a call around 8 a.m. stating sex offender Robert Anthony Menendez, 35, of San Luis was walking in front of Sinsheimer Elementary School. The caller recognized Menendez from the Megan’s Law Web site as a registered sex offender and printed Menendez’ photo from the Web site.
SLOPD and the State Parole Office were notified of Menendez’s whereabouts. They were told he was last seen in the area of Augusta and Laurel Lane. The day before, Menendez failed to show up for his scheduled parole meeting in violation of his parole agreement.
SLOPD detectives with parole agents searched for Menendez and located him around 2:30 p.m. in an apartment on the 1100 block of Laurel Lane. Menendez was taken into custody for a parole violation without incident. He was later booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on a parole hold.
