San Luis Police had an exciting experience with a suspect who briefly escaped their custody last week.
According to SLOPD, an officer stopped suspect, Robert Aguilar of San Jose around 1:37 p.m. on Saturday on the 600 block of Marsh St. Aguilar was the suspect of a stolen tip jar from a downtown business from the day before. Additionally, he had a felony warrant from Santa Clara County.
Aguilar was taken into custody, handcuffed and placed in the rear seat of the officer’s patrol car. Police say some of the stolen tip money was recovered and returned to the business it was stolen from by Aguilar.
According to SLOPD, Aguilar slipped out of his cuffs and squeezed his arm through the safety bars to open the rear door of the patrol car, which was parked on the 400 Block of Higuera St. Police believe Aguilar fled into the creek to escape. After a fight with officers Aguilar was taken back into custody.
