FRESNO – A gang member who allegedly shot a 16-year-old boy in the leg last month was arrested on Friday, police said.
The shooting took place on December 18, 2014 at a gas station on the 2100 block of South Elm Avenue in Fresno. The boy was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.
Luis Leon, 20, of Fresno, confessed to shooting the boy, who was not identified, police said.
Police said that the teenager was walking with two gang members who were rivals of Leon’s gang when Leon saw them and started shooting. Police discovered that detectives learned that a drive-by shooting was planned at Leon’s home in the 2100 block of South Nicholas Avenue in southeast Fresno, so they quickly secured a search warrant for his arrest. Police found a loaded gun inside the home.
There have been three shootings so far this year. At this point last year, the police department had already responded to 11 shootings.
