HAWTHORNE, CA—Every now and then there is a gang that can’t shoot straight, and this year there is one that is comprised of three people including a presumed company’s owner.
Onsi Amin Tadors Malaty, 61, apparently told Hawthorne police officers that he is an “owner,” and according to the Daily Breeze he owns the “Market Latina” on Prairie Avenue in Hawthorne. He was arrested on Tuesday, February 10 at approximately 9:35 a.m. at or near 100 Prospect Avenue.
His store was not authorized to accept food stamps or EBT cards due to past violations, including selling unauthorized items, such as personal care items, cleaning supplies, and even phone cards. The program is intended only for nutritional foods. They were also accused of exchanging cash, and taking a percentage of the fraudulent transactions.
Arrested the same day and under the same case number were two of his cashiers: Mary Ayoub, 28, and Gan Amin Abdalla Soliman Yosif, 43. All three were charged with a similar offense: grand theft money/property exceeding $400 (487(A)PC). Ayoub was arrested at the 10 minutes earlier on the 14100 block of Cordary and Yosif was arrested on the 13800 block of Prairie Avenue at approximately 11:45 p.m.
Each also had a number of other charges as well. Malaty, a male resident of Prospect Avenue in Redondo Beach, was charged with conspiracy to defraud/cheat/embezzle (182(A)(4)PC), money laundering (186.1(A)PC) and unauthorized use of food stamps (10980(G)2WI). Ayoub, a female resident of South Cordary Avenue in Hawthorne, was additionally charged with possession of items with the intent to defraud/counterfeit/commit forgery (475(A)PC) and attempting fraud to obtain aid (10980(C)2WI). Yosif, a female resident of 182nd Street in Torrance, was additionally charged with conspiracy to defraud/cheat/embezzle (182(A)(4)PC) and unauthorized use of food stamps (10980(G)2WI).
Bail for the three were: Malaty, $215,000; Ayoub, $180,000; and Yosif, $160,000.
The relationships of the three are not known, but all three are being tried under a single case number: 12-15820.
