SJPD Arrest Suspect Involved in Physical Assault at Valley Fair Mall Parking Lot
SAN JOSE, Calif – 25-year-old Truong Son Huynh was arrested for physical assault against a 17-year-old Juvenile who had been harassing him inside the Valley Fair Mall in San Jose.
According to Officer Albert Morales with the San Jose Police Department, “On March 11, 2015, at approximately 8:13 P.M., San Jose Police “911” call center received information regarding a male who was knocked unconscious by an unknown male suspect in the parking lot at Valley Fair Mall.”
SJPD Officers responded to the scene, where they located an unconscious 17 year old male who was suffering from serious injuries that would leave him hospitalized. At the time the police believed that the suspects responsible for the beating may have gotten into an altercation in the parking lot due to gang affiliations. They drove through the area looking for possible suspects. However, Huynh had fled the scene, and was not located at that time.
Morales said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that two subjects were following the victim and his friends in the Valley Fair Mall, and the two groups were exchanging gestures back and forth.”
When the victim had exited the mall with his friends, he was confronted by Huynh and his friend in the parking lot. Huyhn reportedly asked the victim why he was trying to fight with him, while flipping him off when he saw him inside the mall. An argument erupted about his gestures, and during the fight Huynh physically struck the victim, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
The San Jose Police Gang Investigation Unit (GIU) was contacted to find the suspect involved due to the possible gang involvement. GIU detectives were able to identify Huynh as the one responsible for the physical assault. But, Morales said, “Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the assault was not gang motivated.” The SJPD were able to locate Huynh at his home on Thursday, March 26. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for PC 243(d), felony battery.
