BAKERSFIELD — A 38-year-old Sacramento man was arrested in Bakersfield on Wednesday for forcing a female victim to work as a prostitute in several cities throughout the state.
Joshua Worsham Davis was booked into the Kern County Jail for pimping, false imprisonment, obstructing or delaying an investigation and eight counts of human trafficking. His bail has been set at $105,000.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Davis’ arrest came just two days after they made contact with a Sacramento area woman who said she had been forced into working as a prostitute for Davis. She alleges that Davis assaulted her, threatened her, and had withheld her identification, ATM card, cell phone, vehicle, and keys, forcing her to have sex with men in Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, Fresno and Bakersfield.
“The suspect set up an ad on a known prostitution website,” Public Information Officer Ray Pruitt said. “He allegedly had men come to the motel room where she would prostitute herself.”
The Sheriff’s office also stated that Davis and the woman came to the Bakersfield area approximately eight days prior to his arrest on April 15. They had been staying at the Vagabond Inn on Knudsen Drive, along with several motels along Union Avenue in central Bakersfield, where he forced the woman to perform sex acts.
