Suspect Held Positions At Monterey Summer Camp
MARINA—The Marina Police traveled to Seattle Washington with an arrest warrant for a man wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a five-year-old child, which occurred over a span of several years. The Marina Police were assisted by members of the Seattle Police Department and the United State Marshals Service. Arrested without incident was 23-year-old Lamare Cole who is awaiting extradition to Monterey County.
Cole was arrested after an extensive investigation in the sexual assaults of a five-year-old female child. Police stated that the man had ties to the City of Monterey’s Recreation Department, where he held positions at the Whispering Pines Day Camp during the summers of 2008 and 2009.
He also held a position in the city’s Playground Program during the summers of 2010 and 2011. The City of Monterey states that it runs background checks on all its employees. It seems that Cole was hired by the city when he was sixteen, and passed the background check.
The city officials are unaware of any complaints about Cole, even though he worked with children at the summer camps. Police are asking parents of children that attended the summer camps to contact them with any information they may have about the inappropriate behavior. The investigations division can be reached at 831-646-3816, and a confidential tip line is available at 831-646-3840.
Cole was arrested by Marina Police Detectives, who traveled to Washington, at the headquarters of the Seattle Police Department without incident, and was booked in Washington’s King County Jail, where he was awaiting extradition to Monterey County to be arraigned on multiple child sex molestation charges.
