Ventura County – We all have those family members who have a knack for showing up at our family gatherings…and we wish they didn’t. According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Alan Hartkop, Saul Antonio Gonzalez may be just that kind of family member. Certainly, if he wasn’t that kind of pariah before the events of Monday, April 20th, he may well be now.
It was in the evening of the 20th that Moorpark Police received a 911 Emergency call alerting them to a “family disturbance” in a First Street home. When they responded to a call for assistance at the residence, they discovered a male suffering from multiple stab wounds. As the victim was on his way to the hospital, investigation revealed that he and his assailant, 20-year old Gonzalez, had been in a physical altercation just two days prior. According to Moorpark Police detective William Hutton, family members reported that the two had resumed their fight “in front of multiple family members” when Gonzalez pulled a knife and attacked his opponent with deadly intent.
The victim was quickly transported to Los Robles Medical Center listed in stable condition, while detectives went to the Moorpark residence of Gonzalez and took him into custody. Once in handcuffs, however, he was eager to create more mayhem and became combative, assaulting the arresting officers. For his trouble, Gonzalez was transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked on charges of attempted murder and battery on a peace officer, earning himself a bail amount of $655,000.
