A suspect in a deadly shooting in Newcastle was arrested Thursday afternoon in Rocklin. Robert Carlo Yandolino, 28, is suspected of the shooting, which left one man dead and another in the hospital. The shooting occurred early Thursday morning on Oakhurst Way in Newcastle. The deceased victim was shot in the head, and the second victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The names of the victims have not been released pending family notification. Additional details of the incident, including whether the victims and suspect knew each other, have also not been released at this time.
What is known is that the suspect fled the scene after the shooting. The investigation and search took deputies to the Whitney Ranch apartments near Ranchview Drive in Rocklin, where the suspect was holed up in one of the units. The apartment complex is in close proximity to two Rocklin schools. Although no threat was made to the schools, Whitney High School, which is directly across the street, and Twelve Bridges Middle School, a short distance away, were put on lockdown as a precaution.
According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the apartment was surrounded by officers, and Yandolino surrendered Thursday about 3:00 in the afternoon without further incident. The lockdown was lifted, and parents were able to pick their children up from school at the regular pickup areas. Yandolino is a resident of an apartment in the complex, on University Avenue, according to the arrest report.
Records show that Yandolino, while living in Orange County in 2013, was arrested on July 28 of that year for making threats of violence. Details of that incident were not available.
