According to Citrus Heights Police, five suspects were arrested after a home invasion robbery on May 19th in Citrus Heights. The incident occurred early in the early morning at about 2 am. A call was made to Citrus Heights Police from a resident on the 13000 block of Fair Oaks Boulevard reporting possible gunshots.
The resident saw several young men on his neighbor’s property yelling at someone and instructing them to get on the ground. The caller believed the suspects were associated with a nearby silver colored sedan.
Officers arrived on the scene shortly after being dispatched. As they arrived, they reported seeing the male suspects running from the home and spotted the silver sedan. The subjects all fled into the car and took off at a high rate of speed. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects continued to try to get away. A pursuit ensued. The suspects were seen throwing things from the car and continued to try to evade police.
The officers were able to bring the pursuit to an end when they blocked the suspect’s car in a parking lot. Three suspects who remained in the vehicle were detained. Two additional suspects fled on foot. One of them was quickly apprehended with the help of a Citrus Heights Police K-9 Unit.
The remaining suspect starting knocking on doors in the area, claiming to have been in an accident and needing to use the phone. Residents refused the young man entry, and called the Sacramento Sheriff’s office reporting the suspect’s whereabouts. A perimeter was established, and with the assistance of the Folsom PD, Roseville PD, California Highway Patrol and The Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, the remaining suspect was apprehended.
Although gunshots were first reported, it does not appear any shots were actually fired. After an initial investigation, officers located a five-gallon bucket of marijuana and a pellet handgun along the pursuit route. It also appears the victim and suspects knew each other, and that they may have stolen the bucket of marijuana from him.
The suspects arrested include John Sherrard, 18, of Orangevale, Tevin Bolten, 22, of Sacramento and Darius Pope, 19, of Fair Oaks. The three suspects were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Two additional 17-year old suspects were booked at Sacramento Juvenile Hall. Because of their age, their names have not been released.
The suspects were booked on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, robbery, felony evading of officers, vandalism and conspiracy. The investigation is ongoing, but there do not appear to be any other suspects involved. The victim reportedly suffered minor injuries and did not want medical treatment.
