Man Dies After Being Shot and Crashing Car

SACRAMENTO—Following a call to police in the late hours on Tuesday, May 26, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating a shooting and homicide that happened on Franklin Boulevard.

Multiple calls were made regarding gunfire that was heard within the 6200 block of Franklin Boulevard near 44th Avenue, where detectives believe a shooting between two vehicles occurred. A short time later, a car crashed into a power pole at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 46th Avenue, not far from where the gunfire was reported.

The driver of the crashed vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital, but died a short time later. Detectives said the driver had been shot at least once, but it has not yet been confirmed if the victim, a Hispanic man in his 40s, died from the gunshot wound or from injuries sustained during the collision. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has not yet released his identity and official cause of death.

The second vehicle involved in the shooting, a gray or silver sedan, has not been located.
