Ventura County – Lending ever more credence to the aphorism “love is blind”, over recent weeks Oxnard Police Department detectives have been investigating the activities of Guillermo Martin, 39, and his wife Araceli Martin, 35, and discovered that she has been engaged in the ongoing perpetration of multiple crimes on his behalf.
According to Oxnard Police Department spokesman Det. Jason Coleman, Araceli Martin holds the position of Human Resources Director at an area business, which hired her husband based upon the qualifications outlined in his personal history file. The one little thing missing from his file, allegedly, is the fact that Guillermo Martin is a registered sex offender required to disclose that information when applying for employment or housing. His wife, investigators determined, did what she could to “facilitate Guillermo’s employment and conceal his true identity” for a period of approximately six months.
While in the employ of the same company employing his wife, Detectives have come to believe that Guillermo Martin embezzled company funds by using business funds to buy nearly $2,000 in merchandise for his personal use. According to her LinkedIn profile, Araceli Martin works for Reiter Affiliated Companies, an agricultural firm dealing in Driscoll’s Strawberries and other fresh berries. Her status may be changing soon.
Pursuant to the product of the OPD investigation, a search warrant was served in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 28th upon the Martin residence. That search led detectives to the discovery of additional items in the residence indicating the use of multiple identities by Guillermo, and both husband and wife were taken into custody at that time. They were transported to Ventura County Jail where they were booked on charges of sex offender failure to provide information, false impersonation, identity theft, conspiracy, and grand theft.
