Ventura County – Juan Pablo Valencia, 37, a former member of Ventura’s Vista Del Mar Psychiatric Hospital staff, was arrested for the second time on June 4th pursuant to reports of sexual assault upon the patients under his care.
According to Ventura Police Department’s Media Relations Officer, Valencia was arrested on January 21st of this year and charged with sexual contact with a confined person, sexual penetration of a mentally disturbed person, and rape of a victim incapable of giving consent due to a mental disorder following the October 2014 report of a sexual assault by a female who was a patient at Vista Del Mar at the time. Valencia reported “began to pursue” the woman who was undergoing psychiatric care at the time. When she was released from the hospital, Valencia allegedly “continued a sexual relationship with her.”
During the course of that initial investigation leading to Valencia’s January 2015 arrest, detectives did considerable research into both the medical records of the putative victim and into Valencia’s employment history and personnel records. Shortly after that arrest, additional victims of Valencia were identified, each independently alleging sexual assault while they were patients at the hospital.
Based upon those reports and additional evidence, Valencia was once against arrested on June 4th, and transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked on charges of sexual contact with a confined person, sexual penetration of a mentally disturbed person, sexual battery of an institutionalized victim, sexual penetration with an intoxicated person, and rape of an intoxicated person.
The investigation into Valencia’s alleged crimes is ongoing, and anyone with additional information regarding sexual misconduct by Valencia is urged to contact Detective Edwards of the Ventura Police Department at (805)339-4328.
