FRESNO – When his friend’s car was stolen, a man jumped onto his motorcycle and chased the vehicle for several miles before police were able to arrest the suspect.
Around noon on Tuesday, 23-year-old Keith Stump allegedly stole a 1998 Honda Civic from a home in the 4000 block of East Saginaw Way in Fresno. The car’s owner and a friend were inside the home eating lunch, authorities said.
The friend saw someone in the car and both men ran outside. They tried to pull the suspect out of the vehicle, but he smashed the friend against the windshield, knocking him to the ground, and then drove away in the Civic, authorities said.
The friend jumped onto his motorcycle and chased the suspect for several miles. Stump then slowed and jumped out of the Civic near Willow and Euclid Avenues while the car was still moving, police said.
Stump allegedly started to run away with the friend chasing behind, until two Clovis police officers caught and arrested him.
Stump is being charged with carjacking and stealing a vehicle. He is also being charged in connection with a March 2015 carjacking and was arrested on two felony warrants for evading police and auto theft from a different case.
