FRESNO – Police arrested an 18-year-old woman they say was high on drugs and caused and accident that killed the driver of a Toyota pickup last week.
According to authorities, 18-year-old Alyssa Gonzales was driving her blue Jaguar south on Blackstone Avenue around 6:30 a.m. on Friday at a high rate of speed when she tried to turn westbound onto Shields Avenue. Gonzalez was unable to navigate the turn and her vehicle jumped over the center median and then crashed into a white pickup that was stopped on eastbound Shields.
The driver of the pickup, 43-year-old David Torres of Fresno, suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. He died at 10:09 a.m. on Friday from his injuries.
Gonzales was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Police determined that she was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. Gonzales was arrested and faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI and driving without a license or insurance.
