SAN BERNARDINO – County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Rialto man early Saturday morning on various charges, chasing him down after he tried to flee during a traffic stop. A female suspect escaped.
Joshua Gabriel Jauregui, 38, was arrested after units chased him down at the Baseline exit of the 215 Freeway, according to reports, early Saturday morning. A female passenger, Perlita Lamas, 26, of San Bernardino, escaped while a deputy chased Jauregui, who crashed and fled on foot. While Jauregui is expected to appear in San Bernardino County Superior Court on Tuesday, law enforcement personnel are trying to find Lamas.
Deputies were alerted when the car Jauregui was driving at 3:15 in the morning came back as a stolen vehicle from Riverside three days earlier. The deputy tailed Jauregui while awaiting additional units to assist. At the intersection of 30th Street and Waterman, Jauregui began fleeing from the deputy, reports said, including running a red light and accelerating away at a high rate of speed. He took the onramp to the 210 Freeway, which leads to the 215 interchange.
Jauregui reached the 215 Freeway taking a southbound route, and then exited onto East Baseline Street. He failed to make the left turn, and crashed into the south wall over the freeway.
Before assistance was able to arrive, a deputy chased Jauregui, now on foot. Lamas, who stayed in the car while the deputy chased Jauregui, then left the car, and escaped on foot before additional units arrived.
Jauregui was arrested without further incident, according to deputies, booked for felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of burglary tools. His current bail is $100,000.
Lamas was later found to have two active arrest warrants against her, totaling $70,000. Reports did not state if she would be held on charges relating to the chase. Jauregui was also arrested on May 11 for receiving stolen property.
