BAKERSFIELD — A convicted felon wanted for allegedly robbing a Bakersfield discount store with a box cutter earlier this month has been arrested. Juan Jose Galvez was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of burglary, robbery, parole violation and criminal threats.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, Galvez was being sought by detectives as one of two suspects who entered the Dollar General store at 3030 Brundage Lane on Tuesday, June 2 at around 9:30 p.m., concealing items and leaving without paying for them.
Store employees said the suspects then re-entered the store and again began selecting and concealing more items. That’s when store clerks confronted Galvez and his female accomplice, detaining the female.
“Galvez then pulled out a box cutter and made threats of a firearm while demanding the female’s release,” said Sergeant Joe Grubbs, BPD Public Information Officer. “The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle.”
“Thanks to the efforts of an alert citizen we were able to identify one suspect as Juan Galvez,” Grubbs added. “And with further tips from the public, we were able to get a location on the suspect and take him into custody.”
Galvez, who is currently on parole and has a warrant for his arrest for violating the terms and conditions of his parole, was arrested in the 700 block of “L” Street without incident.
The female suspect has not yet been identified or apprehended. She is described as being an Hispanic female in her mid-20’s, 5’ 2” to 5′ 5”, average build, with dark hair and a tattoo on right shoulder blade.
