POMONA – On Wednesday June 24th, Pomona Police officers were called upon to investigate a stabbing on the 1700 block of East Mission Blvd. that occurred at 10:29 p.m.
The victim was reported to have multiple stab wounds, which proved to be fatal as he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as 36-year-old Albert Daniel Herrera, a Pomona resident. None of the witnesses were able to provide detectives a clue to the suspect’s motives for the stabbing, and Herrera was not the only one who was stabbed in the area that night.
According to the report, another victim was stabbed at a location on Mission Blvd. just two minutes prior to Herrera’s murder. That victim, a 36-year-old man, was stabbed repeatedly in the torso, and was rushed to the hospital right after the incident. He was listed in critical condition.
That incident reportedly occurred just over a mile away, at the 700 block of East Mission. Investigators believe the two stabbings may be related, but the investigation is ongoing. The surviving victim is reportedly not cooperating with detectives. His name is being withheld at this time.
Meanwhile the suspect in Herrera’s death has been identified as George Hernandez, 46, who is a Pomona resident as well. Hernandez was arrested Monday and charged with murder by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, and is waiting for the court proceedings. He is currently being held at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.
