Ventura County – When visiting your favorite barber, it’s customary to be offered “full service” involving a little off the top, a little off the sides, a splash of astringent, and maybe even a bit of a neck rub. But at Gabe’s Barbershop in Camarillo, as detailed in the report of Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Eric Tennessen, one might have been offered quite a bit more.
It was in the middle of the morning on July 2nd when, pursuant to what Tennessen described to the media as “received information” and the ensuing investigation into the activities of barbershop proprietor Gabriel Robles, a 54-year old resident of Camarillo, that a search warrant was served upon the premises of Gabe’s Boulevard Barbershop and of Robles’ nearby residence. The execution of that warrant and the concomitant contact detectives made with Ralph Reyes, another 54-year old local resident, produced evidence indicating Reyes was in possession of “heroin packaged for sale and a significant amount of cash,” while additional marijuana, cash, and a firearm were located within the confines of the barbershop.
Both Reyes and Robles were taken into custody without incident, and transported to Ventura County Jail where Reyes was booked on charges of conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance, with his bail set at $60,000. For his part, Robles was booked on charges of conspiracy, possession of marijuana for sale, and maintaining a place for selling or furnishing controlled substances.
