A man was booked last Friday in Madera on charges of domestic violence from an arrest at a property in rural east Madera, along Road 28 1/2. According to an official media report from the Madera County Department of Corrections, Jose Javier Aguilar, a 27-year-old laborer, was apprehended by deputies from the Madera Sheriff’s office late Thursday night, and booked into jail at 2:50 am Friday morning, July 24.
Aguilar was charged with misdemeanor battery, felony inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant, and kidnapping for ransom, penal code 209. This charge is levied on anyone accused of seizing, confining, abducting or kidnapping another person with intent to hold or detain that person for ransom, commit extortion, or exact from another person any money or valuable thing.
As in the case of domestic violence incidents, the name of the victim was not released by law enforcement out of right-to-privacy concerns, and the details of what Aguilar was holding his victim for were not released either. However the serious nature of the charges resulted in bail being set at over half a millions dollars. Aguilar remains in custody at the Madera County Jail pending his next court appearance.
