Domestic Disturbance Leads To Couple’s Arrest

Witnesses Heard Gunshots Coming From The Area

SANTA CRUZ—The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department announced that they have arrested a couple this month for their part in a domestic disturbance incident that occurred at their shared home on the 400 block of Monterey Avenue. Arrested were Santa Cruz residents 45-year-old Doran James Maxwell and 30-year-old Bianca Whitfield on several charges.

On Thursday, August 6 at 4:22 pm, deputies responded to a domestic dispute incident. While in route deputies were informed that gunshots were also heard in the area. When deputies arrived they immediately set up a perimeter around the residence and initiated an automated “Shelter in Place” for the surrounding neighborhood.

A Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s office negotiator made contact with both the residents and instructed them to exit the house. Both Maxwell and Whitfield came out of the dwelling and were detained without further incident.

After clearing the house, deputies found that there was no one injured inside, and that Maxwell and Whitfield had been the only occupants of the home. Deputies confiscated two handguns from the residence.

Maxwell was arrested for unlawful discharge of a firearm.  Whitfield, who was on probation, was arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, violation of a domestic violence court order and a probation violation.

After an investigation, deputies found that the argument stemmed from a hearing, in which the outcome was that their dog was to be turned over to the Animal Services department. While at the scene, deputies notified Animal Services agents and they took the dog into custody.

The couple have both had a history with law enforcement that goes back several years. Available records for Bianca Whitfield show two arrests in 2006, one in 2008 and one in 2013 for disorderly conduct, being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She was arrested on that charge as well in July of 2014, along with threats of violence, shooting into an inhabited dwelling or vehicle, and resisting arrest. She was arrested four more times in 2014 for both public intoxication and violating a domestic relations court order.

Maxwell used his jail ID to post on one of his videos as DjM, changing his name to "Many Days Jaded".

Doran Maxwell, a musician who posts videos of his performances on a YouTube channel under the name Maccus Wiel, was arrested in September of 2013 on domestic violence charges of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant. In October of 2014 he was arrested three times, for being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and possession of drug paraphernalia, then for assault likely to cause great bodily injury, and for assault and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant. Information about the identity of victims of domestic violence is not released by law enforcement, so it is not clear if the victim in those cases was Whitfield, or if her domestic relations court orders were related to those incidents. Maxwell was arrested again in June of this year on an outstanding warrant.
