BAKERSFIELD — A 50-year-old man armed with a sawed-off shotgun behind a Bakersfield motel is behind bars after being arrested last Friday night.
Anthony Hodge of Bakersfield was booked into the Kern County Jail on multiple firearm and drug violations.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the incident took place at around midnight on September 18, when officers went to the Capri Motel, located at 2020 Union Avenue, regarding a report of a man behind the motel armed with a sawed-off shotgun. When officers arrived, they said they found Hodge, who matched the description originally provided by the reporting party.
Officers contacted Hodge and recovered a saw-off shotgun and ammunition, as well as an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine and glass smoking pipe. Hodge was taken into custody without incident.
Hodge is a well known “customer” of Bakersfield and Kern County law enforcement. Records show over 50 arrests since 2007 on charges mostly involving drug and paraphernalia possession, disorderly conduct/public intoxication, trespassing and vehicle code violations, including driving on a suspended license. In 2013 he was also charged with interfering with a business and resisting arrest, and later that year, with domestic violence charges of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant, along with child endangerment.
