OCEANSIDE – A suspect in a brutal attack on an elderly woman on the Oceanside Pier pleaded not guilty to three felony counts at a Sept. 30 court appearance and was ordered held on $250,000 bail.
Isaac Pettigrew, 31, faces felony charges of cruelty to an elder and assault with force likely to cause great bodily harm in connection with a September 22 assault of a 67-year-old woman. Witnesses said a man believed to be Pettigrew attacked the woman for no reason, while she was walking her dog on the Oceanside Pier.
KGTV News reported that the woman’s dog, named Edie, ran home alone. Neighbors who saw the dog knew something was amiss and alerted the woman’s son.
Oceanside police said they received reports on September 27 of a man fitting the description of a suspect in the attacks on the beach in Oceanside near the pier. Police said Pettigrew was taken into custody without incident and the victim of the assault positively identified Pettigrew as her assailant.
During the attack, the woman was knocked unconscious and suffered a concussion and lacerations to her face. Police said it appears the woman did not know Pettigrew and witnesses said the attack was unprovoked.
