BB Gun Vandals Arrested for Approximately $35,000 Worth of Damage
MORENO VALLEY – Following an early Sunday morning BB gun shooting spree, residents woke to mass amounts of damage to vehicles and property.
On Sunday October 4, residents began to make calls to the Moreno Valley Police Department, regarding broken windows in their vehicles. Officers responded to reports on various streets north of Highway 60, between Kitching Street and Pigeon Pass Road, ascertaining that the vehicles had been shot at by a BB gun. This first rash of investigations totaled 40 incidents in which the vehicle windows were damaged.
The investigation led authorities to Brendan Griffis, 19-years-old of Moreno Valley. Griffis was identified as one of the primary suspects and taken into custody without incident. During the arrest and search, officers found two BB guns, several boxes of BB’s and C02 cartridges. At this time, the damage was estimated to be approximately $10,000, and authorities continued to seek additional suspects.
As the investigation continued, more calls came into the department of other incidents. On Monday, October 5, officers identified Dominic Hernandez, 19-years-old of Moreno Valley, and Jereme Reyna, 19-years-old of Moreno Valley, as the two other primary suspects. Both Hernandez and Reyna were arrested without incident. There are no other suspects currently being sought at this time.
The Riverside Sheriff’s Department reported in a press release that at the time of the other suspects’ arrest they had investigated 95 calls for service related to the vandalism. The damage is now estimated to be approximately $35,000. The three suspects are being charged with 95 counts of vandalism and one count of conspiracy.
