Milpitas homicide suspect also arraigned on domestic abuse and battery charges
According to Milpitas Police Department Sergeant John Torrez, “On Monday, October 5, 2015 at 3:59 P.M., the Milpitas Police Department received a phone call reporting an unresponsive adult inside a residence on the 500 block of Manzano Street in Milpitas.”
The suspect in this case, a San Jose resident – 26-year-old Kevin Van Nguyen, was arrested for the murder of his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend Danica Bascos in her home. This was Milpitas’ first homicide of 2015.
Nguyen is facing one charge of murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and intentionally lying in wait. He was also charged with domestic battery, and one count of battery against Bascos’ boyfriend John Souza, when back on September 13 Nguyen had confronted both of them, and hit Souza in the head during a violent confrontation.
When Milpitas Officers arrived they found Bascos deceased with multiple stab wounds. Homicide detectives were called to the scene and were able to identify Nguyen as the suspect through video surveillance footage from a nearby residence. Nguyen was further identified through a photo line-up in which he was identified as the person seen prior to her stabbing.
Just 14 hours later the Milpitas Homicide department was able to obtain an arrest and search warrant for Kevin Nguyen.
The Milpitas Police SWAT Team assisted detectives in serving the warrants at Nguyen’s home in San Jose. He was located in the residence and arrested. Nguyen was eventually booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for murder.
Torrez said, “The Milpitas Police Department would like to thank the Fremont and San Jose Police Department for their support. This investigation is on-going. We do not believe this to be a random crime. Nguyen and the victim were previously acquainted.”
Anyone with any information regarding this investigation is encouraged to call the Milpitas Police Department at (408) 586-2400.
Friends have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help out Danica Bascos’ family. Over $6,000 has already been raised.
