Students of Vanden High School were subjected to harrassment Wednesday morning
On the morning of Wednesday, October 21st, Chad Nelson, A 29-year-old Fairfield resident, made vulgar and sexual comments to several teen-aged Vanden High School students while they were walking to school on Whitney Drive in Fairfield, according to authorities. He also made inappropriate comments to another group of teens in the vicinity. Some of these students went to their High School Administrators and reported the incident.
The School Resource Officer assigned to Vanden High responded to the area, however the officer was not immediately able to locate Nelson. But since the officer had prior interactions with Nelson and was familiar with him, the officer was able to spot him a short time later at his home on the 2900 block of Teton Lane in Fairfield, which is adjacent to the school’s athletic fields and around the corner from Whitney Drive.
After some investigation, Chad Nelson was arrested for misdemeanor annoying/molesting a child under 18 years of age, and booked into the Solano County Jail without further incident.
The Fairfield Police Department and its School Resource Officer worked closely with the Travis Unified School District and Vanden High School administrators to coordinate this investigation and ensure the safety of the students in the area. Parents and their children are encouraged to always report suspicious activity near schools or involving children. Preventing any inappropriate and criminal behavior near or around children is important in keeping our neighborhoods safe.
