A Lake Tahoe man got a surprise when he opened his door to a machete-wielding woman. The incident happened on Saturday, October 24 at about 6:45 a.m. on the 900 block of Brockway Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.
The resident of the home told deputies he was awoken by a pounding on his door. The victim opened the door to a female acquaintance, who started demanding money from the victim, and charged at him swinging a machete. A struggle over the weapon ensued, and both the victim and suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the assault.
The victim was eventually able to get away from the woman, close the door and call for help. El Dorado County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and found the man bleeding from multiple cuts on both arms.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies tracked the suspect to a residence on Tata Lane in South Lake Tahoe, about 2 miles from the scene. She was identified as Deborah Darr, 51. Darr also had injuries from the fight. A machete was also found and taken as evidence. Darr was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. She was booked into El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe. Darr was later released on a $25,000 bond.
Darr’s nickname, according to her Facebook page, is CrazyDeb. She is a photographer and artist, according to her personal website, and has lived in the Tahoe area since 2012. She also studied in Solano County. Her relationship with the victim was not specified.
