Two people were arrested on Halloween night in Kings Beach, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, on charges of child endangerment and felony drug possession. Taken into custody were 54-year-old Evelyn Rene Hudson and 46-year-old James Robert Walker of Vallejo.
Walker attracted attention from a deputy after acting suspiciously. According to Placer County Sheriff’s Office, at about 9 p.m., Walker was near a bathroom at a boat launch on Coon Street when a deputy spotted the suspect acting strangely. Walker, who is a parolee, was stopped and searched. The deputy found marijuana and methamphetamine in Walker’s pockets.
Deputies went back to the motel where Walker said he was staying. In the room, deputies found Hudson, a strong odor of marijuana, a large amount of drugs and a sleeping six-year-old child. After further investigation, deputies learned Hudson was the child’s guardian.
A search of the room found nine grams of meth, roughly ten pounds of pot, drug paraphernalia and indications of drug sales. Both suspects were arrested on multiple drug charges, as well as child endangerment. They were booked into Placer County Jail in Auburn. Bail was set for Hudson at $60,000 and $260,000 for Walker. The child was taken into protective custody.
