BAKERSFIELD — A convicted felon who fired off a couple of rounds inside a Bakersfield home on Sunday night while deputies were approaching is now behind bars.
Luis Altimirano, 45, was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of being in possession of a firearm while under the influence of a controlled substance, and negligent discharge of a firearm.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at around 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, when deputies responding to a call regarding a possible victim of a shooting in the 2300 block of Oregon Street in east Bakersfield heard gunshots inside the home as they approached.
Deputies then surrounded the residence and discovered the lone occupant to be Altimirano, who exited the home without incident.
During their investigation deputies said they determined that Altimirano was under the influence of a controlled substance and had discharged a shotgun inside his house for unknown reasons.
No one was injured during the incident.
