Motel 6 where the incident began
BAKERSFIELD — A well-known Bakersfield gang member is behind bars today after being arrested on Sunday night.
Eric Oliva, 24, was booked into the Kern County Jail for resisting arrest, as well as various firearm and gang related charges.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, Oliva was taken into custody at around 10 p.m. on November 29, after officers tried to make contact with him at the Motel 6, located at 1350 Easton Drive in Bakersfield.
Officers said that when they contacted Oliva he ran away from them. A foot pursuit ensued, and while he was fleeing the scene, officers said they saw Oliva discard a gun onto the ground. He was taken into custody and the firearm, a loaded 9 mm handgun, was recovered by officers at the scene.
According to the Kern County Superior Court web site, Oliva has been arrested three times in Kern County since 2011, and as recently as September of this year for being drunk and disorderly.
He was also arrested in August of 2013, for charges that included being in possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm.
