On Sunday, December 13, two groups of men were in a dispute in front of the Standard Hotel on 550 South Flower Street at around 2:20 a.m. The dispute eventually led to a fight between the two groups.
When the fight was over, one of the men pulled out a hand gun and started shooting at the other group.
During the shooting, one of the victims, Thomas Johnson, ran through the lobby to the rear of the hotel to avoid getting shot. The suspect responded by running around the hotel, and coming to the rear and caught Johnson. From there, the suspect fired several rounds at Johnson and another victim who was firing back at the suspect with his own gun.
Johnson was pronounced deceased in the hospital from the bullet wounds. The other victim remains in stable condition.
The suspect has not been identified yet, but was described as a 5’10”, black male with corn rows, brown eyes, a black mustache, wearing a black trench coat, black pants, and black shoes.
