SUNNYVALE – This past Thursday, December 17, Sunnyvale police have announced the arrest of a 27-year-old man in connection with the rape of a Santa Clara University student.
According to Captain Jeff Hunter with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, Sunnyvale Police responded on November 14 to a report of a sexual assault that occurred on November 11.
The victim was an 18-year-old female student from Santa Clara University who had been with friends at a house party near campus late Friday night (Nov. 11). 27-year-old Pedro Madrid of Sunnyvale was also confirmed to have attended the party, according to police.
“Madrid is not a Santa Clara University student or known to the party hosts or attendees,” said Captain Hunter.
While at the party, the victim had consumed too much alcohol and had become extremely intoxicated and ultimately unable to care for herself. Madrid is alleged to have offered her a ride home, only to drive her to his home and sexually assault her.
Madrid was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of rape, kidnapping, and penetration by foreign object.
