VICTORVILLE – Law enforcement officers are still seeking a robbery suspect who fled after apparently left a store with several items of merchandise early Wednesday afternoon.
Jose Garcia, 24, and a 16-year-old male suspect reportedly left Walmart with several concealed pellet guns, along with makeup, hidden in a diaper bag.
The suspects, said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Guerry, passed all points of sale portions of the store without paying for the concealed merchandise.
When confronted by store security, the 16-year-old suspect produced a knife and threatened the workers. Both suspects fled in a black Honda Accord, heading north on Amargosa Road, said Guerry, with a one-year-old child also in the car.
Deputies spotted the car heading north on Interstate 15 from Bear Valley Road, attempting to make a traffic stop, but the suspects refused to pull over.
The ensuing pursuit reached speeds up to 85 miles an hour, said Guerry, “while the suspect drove recklessly cutting in and out of traffic.”
The exited I-15 at Palmdale Road, headed north on Mariposa Road, then wound up on Seventh Street. When the pursuit ended near the intersection of East Sage and Seventh Street, both suspects fled on foot.
Deputies caught the 16-year-old, but Garcia, who exited the car with the child, who was taken out of a rear seat, fleeing in the opposite direction.
Guerry said Garcia showed up at the Victorville home of a family member, left the child in their care, then departed the area on foot.
Garcia, said Guerry, “left that location on foot and remains outstanding.”
