VICTORVILLE – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man suspected of shooting another man to death after an argument on Tuesday morning.
Brandon Todd, 37, was taken into custody one day after Ronnie Senegal, 43, had been shot, according to deputies’ reports.
Deputies were summoned to the Lakeside Market at 26800 Blue Water Road in Helendale after reports were made that shots had been fired at around 9:58 a.m. on Tuesday.
When they arrived, Senegal was discovered suffering from “apparent gunshot wounds,” according to Sgt. Greg Myler.
Senegal, taken to Victor Valley Global Medical Center, was pronounced dead by the coroner, according to reports. Todd fled the scene.
Detective Brendon Motley, a homicide investigator from the county sheriff’s department, determined that Senegal and Todd were at the market and had gotten into an argument. A physical fight took place and Senegal was shot, according to reports.
Both men are from Helendale, a community in the Silver Lakes area which is located about halfway between Victorville and Barstow in the San Bernardino high desert.
During the investigation, Todd was identified as the person responsible for shooting Senegal, said Motley. Senegal had just gotten off work, according to reports, and showed up at the market, which is also a gas station.
Investigators said Todd was apparently getting ready to leave the gas station when Senegal reportedly punched him in the face. Todd pulled out a firearm and shot Senegal, according to law enforcement reports.
Reports said the two men knew each other, having previously worked together. The argument apparently stemmed from times when they were employed at the same location.
He was taken into custody and booked into the High Desert Detention Center on murder charges. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Friday at 12:30 p.m., according to jail records.
