Santa Clara County RATTF cracks down on auto theft perps

SANTA CLARA COUNTY — With auto theft on the rise during the colder months, Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATTF) has mounted a campaign to locate stolen cars and arrest those responsible.

Angela Julian Reynoso (27) of San Jose is one in particular. RATFF Detective Cary Colla observed a light blue ’95 Honda Civic driving on Eulalie Drive near McLaughlin and soon discovered that the vehicle had been stolen after running its plates. Detectives conducted a stop and discovered Reynoso behind the wheel with her fiance, Oscar Garcia, riding shotgun.

Reynoso and Garcia began to walk away as the vehicle was searched but were stopped by detectives, who soon also discovered that Reynoso was on the hook for two felony charges of vehicle theft and Garcia on a $500,000 misdemeanor warrant out of San Jose.

Reynoso was apparently forthcoming about the vehicle having been stolen.

Though Garcia said he suspected the vehicle was stolen, he didn’t ask. It is believed that Reynoso is solely responsible for the stolen vehicle.

Reynoso is due in court on February 23 at 9 AM in San Jose.

It wasn’t long before another hit came back on January 7, when 20-year-old Christina Marie Borquez was charged with vehicle theft with prior conviction and held on $35,000 bond.

RATFF detectives had observed Borquez drive a 2002 grey Ford Escape that had been parked in the area of the E-Z-8 Motel at 1550 N 1st Street in San Jose. It was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen in San Jose on December 23. The owner had reported that he may have left the keys inside. When Borquez got into the vehicle to drive away, a felony stop was conducted and Borquez was taken into custody.

On January 19th, Borquez pleaded no contest to felony charges and is facing a 180-day sentence. Her next court date is scheduled for February 24 at 9 AM.
