COACHELLA – Drivers believed to be under the influence were arrested in two separate incidents, one of which turned violent.
On Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 5:30 A.M. the Coachella Police Department received a report of a non-injury traffic collision at Cozumel and Todo Santos in Coachella. Upon arrival, police found a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado which had rear-ended a parked 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on Cozumel.
The driver, Daniel Anguiano, age 20, was evaluated and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol/ and or drugs. According to a press statement, Anguiano was taken to a local area hospital for a precaution prior to being booked into the Indio Jail.
A second incident occurred at 7:39 PM at the intersection of Harrison St and Avenue 50. Officers from the Coachella Police Department responded to discover a traffic collision involving two vehicles. A blue Chevrolet S-10 truck traveling southbound on Harrison St, collided with the rear end of another vehicle just prior to Avenue 50.
The driver of the Chevrolet, who was identified as Gerardo Fernandez, 36 years old of Coachella in a press release, was evaluated for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
When questioned, Fernandez gave the officers a false name and then reportedly struck on of the officers. The officer was not injured in the altercation.
Fernandez was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol, providing false information to a peace officer, felony battery of a peace officer, felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation, and an active felony warrant for possession of stolen property.
Fernandez was also taken to a local hospital as a precaution prior to being booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
