FRESNO – Police arrested two men believed to have been involved in a large disturbance involving firearms in southeast Fresno on Monday night.
Police received a call about an incident that took place at an apartment complex in the 5600 block of East Balch Avenue. The caller reported that there had been a scuffle involving approximately 20 people, some of whom were carrying guns.
Officers arriving on the scene saw two men running toward an SUV and ordered them to stop, police said. One of the men dropped a handgun while attempting to flee, according to authorities.
The driver of the SUV hit a parked car and a wall in his attempt to get away. One of the suspects threw another handgun from the vehicle near Clovis Avenue and Tulare Street as officers pursued the vehicle, according to authorities.
The chase ended when the SUV slammed into a tree at Shields Avenue, west of Highway 180. Police arrested 23-year-old Anthony Gross Jr., and 24-year-old Dishan Darrin Washington. Gross faces charges of being a felon in possession of firearms, violation of probation and felony evading. Washington was charged with evasion and hit and run.
