Zakkery Treyvon Atkins and Marquec Pikes
FRESNO – A man was injured after he put his car in reverse and slammed into a wall as he tried to escape from an attempted carjacking, police said.
The incident began around 10 a.m. on Tuesday when two suspects – identified as Marquec Pikes, 21, and Zakkery Treyvon Atkins, 18 – kicked in a door of a home and then fled the scene in a gray Toyota Camry, police said.
The suspects drove to The Marketplace at El Paso, where they abandoned the Camry and began trying unsuccessfully to get into different cars in the McDonald’s parking lot, police said.
Near a Jamba Juice store, one of the men allegedly told the driver of a Chrysler that he had been shot and needed a ride. When the driver refused, the suspect tried to open the door. The driver put his car in reverse and accelerated backward in an attempt to get away, but slammed into a concrete wall, police said.
The driver injured his back and had to be taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the two suspects ran into a nearby Target store, where one of them put on a red shirt to try to pass himself off as a store employee, police said. However, a Target worker told the police, who arrived and arrested both suspects.
Atkins was charged with robbery of an inhabited dwelling and felony probation violation. Pikes was charged with robbery of an inhabited dwelling and carjacking.
