Stabbing Suspect Leads CHP on Chase, Ends Up in Ditch

SALINAS — California Highway Patrol has arrested 24-year-old Isidro Diaz following a chase on Thursday night that saw him driving into a ditch and needing his car fished out by authorities.

Police responded to the Cesar Chavez Park at 250 N. Madeira Avenue on reports of a stabbing. Once on scene, they discovered a 27-year-old man who’d been stabbed in the lower torso. He told police that he’d been sitting in his car when Diaz approached him and asked where he was from.

When he tried to move away, Diaz stabbed him and took his car.

About 10 minutes later, CHP spotted the vehicle and attempted to conduct a stop. Diaz instead chose to lead them on a pursuit near North Monterey County and into San Benito County.

Diaz finally veered off the road and into a ditch, where he was cornered and arrested.

The stabbing victim was treated at a local hospital and later released.
