Salinas Sees 6th and 7th Homicide of the Year

SALINAS — On Saturday, March 13, police responded to the 1000 area of Ramona Avenue in Northern Salinas on reports of a shooting at approximately 11:14 PM.

Once on scene, officers discovered two male victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, a 21-year-old male, was found sitting in a vehicle, dead from his wounds. The other, an 18-year-old of unspecified gender, was rushed to Natividad Medical Center just blocks away but ultimately did not survive.

A witness told police that a dark SUV had pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle and opened fire, then continued south on Ramona Avenue and turned east on Pacheco Street.

One of the victims is reported to have gang ties, as well as their fair share of encounters with police. The case is being investigated as gang-related.

Ultimately, these two deaths mark Salinas’ 6th and 7th homicides of the year, respectively. The names of the victims are being withheld at this time.
