NOVATO – According to a community bulletin issued by the Novato Police Department (NPD) on April 4th, NPD Officers responded to a report of a physical fight in progress shortly after 2 PM on the afternoon of Sunday, April 3rd, at 5 Joan Avenue.
When officers arrived on scene, they determined that a suspect had physically assaulted an 80-year-old victim. A concerned neighbor informed officers that he had heard the altercation in progress and had intervened by physically restraining the suspect to stop the attack.
The suspect and the victim were both transported to Marin General Hospital by Novato Fire Department Paramedics due to their visible injuries.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Anton Sherba. After medical clearance, Sherba was booked at Marin County Jail. According to the Marin County Jail’s Public Booking Log, Sherba’s occupation is listed as a box maker. He is also described at 5’11” and 230 pounds.
Sherba faces charges of felony assault with great bodily injury and felony cruelty to a dependent adult with great bodily injury, also listed is an assault to commit rape. Bail has been set in advance at $250,000. A court appearance has not been scheduled at this time. The victim remains hospitalized as of the time of the bulletin release.
