Ramee Dayesh
FRESNO – A Salinas man was arrested on accusations that he stole a championship belt autographed by Mike Tyson during a burglary spree last month.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Ramee Ayesh in connection to the burglaries.
According to the sheriff’s office, Ayesh broke into the Millerton Country Store on Auberry Road on March 16, checked for cash in the register, and left after finding the register to be empty. He then broke into a home in the Mira Bella housing development, rifled around and ultimately stole personal and financial documents, the sheriff’s office said.
Ayesh then went to a home in the Brighten crest gated community, where “he forced a door open and stole cash, jewelry, electronics, and an autographed Mike Tyson World Championship Boxing Belt,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The owner told authorities that he considered the belt a one-of-a-kind item valued at $15,000.
Later that afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer responded to a car crash near Highway 180 and Fulton Street in Fresno. An officer investigating the crash found an abandoned black 2016 Ford Fusion, which had been stolen from Salinas Valley Ford and contained items from the two residential burglaries, as well as a sales slip from Clovis Gold and Silver jewelry shop.
Sheriff’s detectives visited the jewelry shop, where the owner told them she had purchased some jewelry from a man, but was not aware it had been stolen, authorities said.
The store owner also said that the man she bought the jewelry from had been in possession of the Mike Tyson boxing belt and she was in the process of appraising it to see whether or not she would be interested in purchasing it, according to the sheriff’s department.
On March 29, investigators contacted Salinas Valley Ford and learned that Ayesh was working there as a salesman. They found Ayesh at the dealership and discovered some of the stolen items in his car, as well as a claim ticket for the belt from the jewelry shop, authorities said.
Ayesh was arrested and transported to the Fresno County Jail. Detectives were able to recover the majority of the stolen property, including the belt.
