Nathan Dickerson booking photo
SANTA CRUZ — Police have arrested 23-year-old Nathan Dickerson in connected to a handgun theft on March 24th.
The incident involved a vehicle break-in on the second floor of a parking structure on the corner of Cedar Street and Church Street. Several items were taken, including a handgun that was legally stored in a lock box in the trunk.
The suspect was captured on surveillance video and in stills. Committing the burglary in broad daylight with people and cars passing by also may not have helped.
Two days later, Officer Caitlin McBride spotted the suspect on Oceans Avenue and initiated contact. She took a field interview photo before being called away on a higher priority call.
She turned the photo over to Detective Damon Williams, who completed the follow-up. Dickerson’s photo and information were circulated and, two days later on March 28th, he was arrested without incident.
Dickerson refused to say what he did with the firearm.
Since January 2015, Dickerson has been arrested 11 times and had, in fact, been arrested only 4 weeks prior to this incident. He has been charged with theft and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
