Jesse Alvarado
FRESNO – A man was arrested on multiple firearms charges over the weekend after he fled the scene of a solo vehicle crash and tried to hide his gun in a nearby neighborhood, authorities said.
Officers were alerted to a single-vehicle crash with a fire hydrant in the area of Thomas Avenue and First Street around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses at the scene told officers that they saw four men fleeing the vehicle after the collision, police said.
The officers found ammunition in the vehicle and called for backup to search the nearby neighborhood. Police said they discovered Jesse Alvarado, 20, of Fresno, a block away. He allegedly admitted to fleeing from the crash.
Officers searched the route in which he had fled and found a red shirt that had just been buried. It was hiding a loaded .357 Magnum revolver and the bullets inside matched the ammunition in the vehicle, police said.
Alvarado allegedly told police that he left the scene of the crash with the handgun and buried it in the dirt to try to hide it.
He was arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, in addition to other firearms-related charges.
