Rennard Calkwell
ESCONDIDO- Escondido police arrested a 46-year-old registered sex offender after he allegedly attempted to meet with a 16-year-old girl following online conversations in which he posed as a teenager.
Rennard Calkwell of Oceanside was arrested April 26 on several charges that included attempting to meet with a minor for sex and online sexual enticement of a minor. Escondido police said Rennard was posing online as a 17-year-old male and having “sexually explicit conversations” with the 16-year old girl while on GPS-monitored parole.
Police said the day after Calkwell was released from parole and his GPS bracelet removed, he arrived at the Escondido home of the 16-year-old victim.
Police said that “fortunately, family members and an alert neighbor prevented his efforts to further victimize the female.” The incident was reported to Escondido police and Calkwell was arrested following an investigation.
“We urge parents to have conversations with their children and teens about the dangers of online conversations,” said Escondido Police Chief Craig Carter. “Sadly, Rennard Calkwell is not the only person posing as something he is not for the purposes of targeting children.
